American flight controllers are increasingly seeking additional employment and reporting ill, as they continue to work without pay amid the federal closure, the transportation secretary has stated.

"The controllers are wearing thin," the official told Fox News on the weekend, as certain aircraft were grounded on the Californian coast due to personnel deficits.

After the federal closure on October 1st, air traffic controllers, who are deemed critical staff, were instructed to continue performing their duties uncompensated.

But a number have been missing, causing terminals to stop or slow their plane traffic, which has exacerbated delays due to weather and other issues.

More than three thousand US flights were postponed on the weekend, and the secretary said he expects the circumstances to grow worse.

"I am seeing the pressure," Duffy said in an interview on a weekend program, adding that he had spoken to multiple professionals to listen to their worries firsthand.

"They are pursuing side jobs, they're out there searching, 'Can I work for Uber, am I able to secure an alternative of earnings to make ends meet?'" he added.

The secretary added that on Saturday twenty-two notifications at airfields indicated flights would be held up due to a shortage of workers - among the peak after the closure started.

The US government shutdown reached its twenty-sixth day on the weekend, making it the second-longest halt in the past.

He has consistently cautioned that flight authorities would reduce the number of aircraft in the sky if there is a deficit of safety personnel.

In his conversation, he declined to respond straightforwardly when asked if it was secure to fly in the US, and instead made a personal plea to controllers.

"I need my controllers focused on the airspace, not on the monetary matters at home," the official stated.

On Sunday, certain flights were stopped at Los Angeles International Airport due to employee deficits, leading to interruption at the fifth most active terminal in the country and among the most crowded in the world, as well as other flights extending north to the metropolis of Oakland.

The FAA notice went out at 08:45 in the morning on Sunday. Many flights were operating normally by midday.

Flights at Newark Liberty International Airport, however, were delayed an mean of over an hour due to staffing shortages, and the FAA indicated Dallas Fort-Worth, the second most active airport in the US, could experience difficulties from reduced staff later in the day.

Pressure on American aviation helped end a government shutdown in 2019. At the time, the shutdown had reached its fifth week and disrupted airline operations, including aviator instruction.

It prompted several flight controllers to remain absent on the identical date on January 25, 2019, briefly halting movement at New York's LaGuardia airport.

On that date, Donald Trump, who at the time was in his first term as president, consented to approve a temporary funding measure, effectively ending the government shutdown after thirty-five days.
