Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
