A female individual formerly staying at a female recovery facility in California allegedly took a stolen van and engaged in a prolonged police chase ending with her crossing the international boundary into the nation of Mexico on Monday.

Auto Theft Discovered from Recovery Residence

According to a law enforcement statement, a another female, Nicolle Walters, forty-five years old, reported that her 2004 gray Toyota Sienna was stolen, along with her car key. Walters, who manages two women’s sober living homes, named the alleged thief as Alyssa Wilson at Diana’s House Sober Living, situated approximately an hour’s drive of Los Angeles.

“My keys were stolen from my house manager’s purse. I arrived just as it was occurring,” Walters stated, adding that the vehicle is designated for the facility’s daily operations.

Dramatic Chase Unfolds Across Several Regions

Authorities located the stolen vehicle about 12 miles north in a nearby city, where they tried to pull the vehicle over, but Wilson did not comply and accelerated rapidly. She attained speeds of about 145km/h on the 118 freeway until the chase continued into LA County. At that juncture, local sheriff’s deputies transferred the pursuit to the CHP once the driver merged onto the Interstate 405 heading south.

“This incident is very unique in the context of the road situation allowing drivers to persist on the freeway and extend this pursuit,” said a public information officer from the local law enforcement agency.

Wilson allegedly dodged all the spike strips deployed on the road by authorities, as seen in footage from above.

International Getaway and Aftermath

The pursuit finally arrived at the international border by 1.30pm, leading to the CHP to terminate the chase due to legal limitations.

Walters indicated on the following day that the minivan was located in Tijuana, Mexico and that she was working with the CHP to recover the vehicle.

“At the end of the day, I’m not concerned with the car,” she said. “I’m more at ease aware she was not injured. The minivan is easily substituted.”

Owner’s Perspective

The sober living home owner, who has run Diana’s House Sober Living since last October, recognizes that the journey toward sobriety from substance abuse and trauma is often non-linear.

“This is a psychological and addiction emergency,” Walters emphasized. “There is a need for additional assistance. It is essential to provide more resources for those that are facing challenges.”

“The recovery process isn’t always pretty,” she added.
