'Living a Nightmare': Loved Ones of Unaccounted For Teenagers Await News After Ski Resort Fire
The relatives of young people lost after a devastating fire at a establishment in a Switzerland's winter destination are confronting an agonising period of uncertainty for answers and pleading for information about their children via social media.
The fire devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the early hours of January 1st. Circulated footage depict the roof structure igniting as bottles with sparklers are held aloft.
Officials have stated that it could take considerable time to identify the those who perished of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and injured another scores more. Officials said on Friday that 113 of the injured have been identified, with the process continuing to locate the remaining few.
In the waiting period, relatives have been using social media to plead for any news about their loved ones who were at the bar that night.
Appeals for the Missing
The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are still unconfirmed, according to an heartfelt request from his family.
The resident of a town near the city, told a publication that she had gone back to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the same in the capital, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. Words cannot describe it," she told the paper.
She explained that some of his friends had been discovered with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they endured a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's government has indicated that six of its citizens remain missing.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, originally from Genoa but now residing in the UAE.
The national sporting body has stated that he is deceased, without directly referencing the tragedy, paying tribute to a "talented young man who embodied dedication and authentic values."
His father, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has clarified that a official announcement of his death is awaited.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also among the missing. His mother said that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"A companion told me they escaped after the fire erupted and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he couldn't see him anymore," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his educators stated, "He was known for his good nature and positive demeanor, alongside great responsibility. Every time offer to get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to sources.
Her brother has posted an urgent request on social media, saying the relatives has had "no updates" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are actively engaged with the case.
