Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive year.
The 27-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of Consistency
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine championship matches, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a 63-12 win-loss record, and earned a record £11m in earnings.
She received nearly 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a extended hiatus following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz took home three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
