Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not True Genuine Supporters'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Tension on Frank
Spurs fans who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "they can't be true Tottenham supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of goals in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th Premier League home loss of the year.
However the primary topic of discussion was Fulham's next goal when Vicario gave away possession well outside his area.
He came out to handle a high pass and took the ball towards the touchline.
However, rather than booting it into touch, the Italy international spun and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.
The forward laid the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the touchline measured at 36.6 yards.
Moments afterwards when the ball went to Vicario again, some Tottenham supporters booed him.
The team were jeered off at the interval, with the side 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.
One of those booing sessions truly angered the manager.
"It came to my attention a few of our supporters apparently jeered the incident and booed after, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented about the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"Those individuals can't be true Tottenham supporters that do that. Fair enough booing following the match, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are behind each other moving ahead."
Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute lead prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second period performance.
Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the second score was "totally avoidable".
"I do understand the supporters' disappointment," Hart continued. "I know the role the keeper is performing. He's a excellent squad member, he's a real leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"He was deeply involved in what turned out to be the decisive goal."
'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'
Frank Defended His Keeper Vicario After the Game
Italian international Vicario is in his third campaign with Spurs.
The 29-year-old stated following the match that he had to take the criticism.
"That goal was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for it," he commented.
"The intent was to clear the ball far and I just hit the ball in a bad way. It was an more difficult challenge to climb."
He said receiving jeers "comes with the game".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team can't be affected by the situation in the stands. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.
"It is on the team to remain increasingly calm, to concentrate on ourselves. The team is missing in composure and poise to reverse results. This match is a bad loss and it is hard to accept."
'I Was Surprised No One Returned to the Goal Line'
Despite Vicario's error, it was far from an easy score for Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the next most distant Premier League score of the campaign – after Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally also occurred on the same day.
Wilson stated he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an open net to aim for.
10 seconds passed between the keeper exiting of his area and Wilson striking – which was five moments after the kick.
"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the area for a long time," Wilson remarked.
"I was surprised none of the back four went back to the line. When not one of them covered the goal, my eyes sparked somewhat.
"Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a little extra opportunity. Then it was all about trying to make the correct contact and place it towards goal. I felt a good feeling, as soon as it left my foot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager
While the keeper's error led coverage, this was an all-round poor day for Tottenham to extend their home struggles.
The match was their tenth at home defeat of the year in the Premier League, a joint club record matching nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.
The side still have home fixtures against Frank's former club the Bees and champions Liverpool to come before the close of the year.
Only one of those wins have come since the manager replaced his predecessor in the summer.
"When you're behind 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated the boss.
"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to go against you as well – the opening was a deflected shot, the next is a mistake from Vic.
"This result leaves us in a place where we have suffered an additional match. Every game has a single narrative, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to keep working. The later period was much better and hopefully an aspect we can utilize to develop."
Tottenham have lost 4 consecutive at home capital clashes for the first time in the Premier League.
And they are averaging 9.5 shots and 3.2 shots on target per game in the Premier League – their poorest averages on record in a one campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).
Former Fulham midfield player Murphy commented that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He must take the criticism," Murphy remarked. "He has taken a prestigious role at a major team with massive anticipation. There is pressure and duty that accompanies that.
"The performances at their stadium have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
